Twelve thousand five hundred and seventy-two candidates are sitting for this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the Ahafo Region.

Of this number, 6,309 are boys while 6,263 are girls.

Checks at examination centres in the Asutifi South District revealed that the exams began successfully at exactly 9 a.m. Invigilators and supervisors were seen checking the examination papers to ensure all materials were intact before the process began.

Teachers were also observed inspecting candidates to ensure no foreign materials were brought into the exam halls.

Modernghana.com caught up with the Deputy Director in charge of EMIS—Educational Management Information and Statistics in the region, Dickson Amponsah-Agyemang, who was monitoring the process at various centres in the Asutifi South District. The examination is expected to end next week.

The Asutifi South District Chief Executive, Benjamin Assabil, expressed satisfaction with the students’ preparedness and noted that they appeared cheerful as the exams began.

He advised the candidates to “just write what they know but not engage in any examination malpractice.”

At Acherensua Presby Primary Basic School, where six schools, including Acherensua Methodist JHS, Agyewodin Islamic JHS, and Acherensua Roman Catholic, are writing the exam, a total of 205 candidates are taking part. Among them is Duut Linda Billa, a 32-year-old mother of four, who is also writing the examination.
