2025/2026 NSS personnel offered optional six-week military training before postings

The National Service Authority (NSA) has announced an optional six-week Basic Military Training programme for selected personnel from the 2025/2026 national service cohort, as part of efforts to broaden the scope and impact of national service in Ghana.

The initiative, which forms part of a pilot programme, offers prospective service personnel the opportunity to undergo structured military orientation prior to being posted to their user agencies. Participation is entirely voluntary and will not affect the posting or work placement of individuals who choose to enroll.

“In line with the introduction of a six-week Basic Military Training as part of national service, the NSA will deploy a limited number of graduates from the 2025/2026 cohort for participation in the pilot phase of this programme,” the NSA stated in a release dated June 17, 2025.

According to the Authority, interested applicants may indicate their willingness to join the programme during the online registration process, which opened on June 17 and is scheduled to close on July 1, 2025.

“Final postings to user agencies will occur after the military orientation is complete, ensuring that no participant forfeits their work placement due to participation in this phase,” the release assured.

This initiative is part of broader reforms being implemented by the NSA to strengthen discipline, patriotism, and national cohesion among young graduates entering the service.

Alongside the military option, the NSA has also rolled out several improvements to its enrolment process, including facial biometric verification through the Ghana Card database, and verified GPS address input to aid in proximity-based placements.

So far, PIN codes have been released for 132,393 eligible graduates from 100 accredited tertiary institutions. An additional 908 private applicants are awaiting final verification.
