5 feared dead asmining pit collapses at Mpasatia

A tragic incident occurred at an illegal mining site in Mpasatia, located in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region, where five individuals are feared dead after a mining pit collapsed on them.

According to eyewitnesses, the five miners, whose identities have not yet been disclosed, were trapped in the pit for several hours on Tuesday, April 1, 2025.

In an interview with this reporter, witnesses stated that two of the victims have been recovered and confirmed dead at the Afari Hospital.

The remaining three miners are still trapped in the pit, buried under heaps of sand, which has made it difficult for rescue teams to reach them. Residents, along with security agencies, are working tirelessly to rescue the remaining individuals as of the time of this report.

Meanwhile, the bodies of the two deceased miners have been taken to the morgue, awaiting identification by family members.
