$50million digital economy fund to support start-ups in Ghana

The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Mr Sam George, has announced that the $50 million Digital Economy Fund will support start-ups through an incubator model with business advisory input from financial institutions, helping young entrepreneurs move from ideas to flexible enterprises.

During his address at an event by the ALX Ghana, the Minister praised ALX Ghana for its visionary work, commending the organization for touching the lives of over 100,000 young Ghanaians since its launch in 2022.

He stated, “Fantastic innovators can often be poor business people; we must help them to scale down. Our approach to this includes incubation, mentorship, and a results-based funding model. We will not distribute money based on political affiliation.”

“This is no small feat. It is not just impressive; it is transformative. It is nation-building at its finest,” he said.

He highlighted ALX’s blended model of tech and entrepreneurship training, citing it as an example that the government intends to scale through partnerships and policy support.

Mr George called on young Ghanaians, saying, “You are not the leaders of tomorrow; you are the leaders of today. Take risks, build things that matter, fail fast, and try again. Let your imagination be your capital, your community be your cause.”

He pledged the Ministry’s continued support in building a digital Ghana, where every young person has the tools, the platform, and the belief to thrive.

“Let us not leave here today with just applause and inspiration. Let us leave with renewed partnerships and clear, accountable outcomes,” he concluded.
