Hannah Biamah Baafi Gunn, Planning Manager for the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA), has revealed that 80 out of every 100 accident-related deaths recorded are men, with the remaining 20 being women.
She noted that this is an annual trend, which is concerning and requires urgent attention.
In an interview on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5 FM, she stated that the total number of accidents recorded in 2024 was 13,489.
She explained that the vehicles involved in these accidents totaled 22,975, noting that some of the accidents involved more than five vehicles.
She broke down the types of vehicles involved as follows: 5,484 motorcycles, including aboboyaa, motorking, and others; 9,687 private vehicles; and 7,804 commercial vehicles.
According to her, there were 2,494 recorded deaths in 2024, an increase from the 2,276 recorded in 2023.
“The sad aspect of these figures is that the number of male deaths in 2024 was extremely high. Men accounted for approximately 80% of all recorded deaths—that’s 80 out of every 100 deaths. Women accounted for the remaining 20%,” she emphasized.
