Mahama is fond of lamenting; he did so even when he took over from himself in 2013 — Manhyia South MP

The Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, has taken a swipe at President John Dramani Mahama for lamenting in his State of the Nation Address.

The NPP MP said he was not surprised that Mr. Mahama largely complained in his address, noting that he did the same in 2013 even when he was taking over from himself.

Speaking on Accra-based JoyNews on Friday, February 28, Agyei Baffour Awuah said he did not expect anything different this time.

“I was not surprised because President Mahama, even when he took over from himself in 2013, was lamenting. The president had taken over from Professor Mills following his demise in 2012 and was sworn in as president. Then, after winning the elections, he took over from himself, and even at that time, when he appeared before Parliament to deliver the State of the Nation Address, he was lamenting.

“So, when he laments about the state of the nation when he’s handing over to himself, what do you think will happen when he’s taking over from someone else? So I wasn’t surprised,” the NPP MP said.

This comes after President John Dramani Mahama bemoaned the state of the country inherited from the Akufo-Addo-led New Patriotic Party (NPP) government.

The President said the country is currently broken on many fronts, with citizens suffering due to the deepening economic crisis.

“Mr. Speaker, as I stated earlier, Article 67 of the 1992 Constitution requires that I give an account of the state of our nation to Parliament. I’m sad to report that the state of our nation is not good. Our economy is in crisis, and our people are suffering unprecedented hardships,” he said while delivering the State of the Nation Address to Parliament on Thursday, February 27.
