Award-winning investigative journalist, Manasseh Azure Awuni, has taken to social media to defend President John Dramani Mahama following criticisms by proponents of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) after his State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Thursday, February 27, 2025.

Manasseh asserted that statements made by President Mahama on the state of the economy he inherited from the NPP government led by former President Nana Addo Dankwa are nothing but the truth.

“Leave Mahama alone. That the economy was wickedly and criminally managed is a fact,” he wrote in a post shared on X on Friday, February 28, 2025.

The journalist, in another post, stated that the NPP lost the 2024 Election because of their bad management of the economy.

He added that even a Member of Parliament of the NPP and a former Deputy Minister of Finance of the Akufo-Addo government admitted the economy was managed badly.

“You lost the debate on the economy when Dr. Bawumia sought refuge in digitalisation, instead of the economy he’s noted for.

“Journalists should remind the NPP that Kwaku Kwarteng, a deputy finance minister in Akufo-Addo’s first term, said in 2024 that the economy was being managed like a ‘ponzi scheme.’ President Mahama is charitable in describing the mess the NPP left behind,” he wrote.
