Mahama pledges completion of Sewua Hospital and key Kumasi projects

President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his commitment to completing the Sewua Hospital by the end of the year, emphasizing that several projects initiated during his previous tenure had stalled under the previous administration but would now be revived.

Speaking to the clergy in Kumasi on Sunday, President Mahama assured,

“I’ve assured Otumfuo that we’ll complete the Sewua hospital this year. The completion would allow us to decongest Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital so that important rehabilitation works can continue there.”

He also revealed that he had engaged Euroget De-Invest S.A., the contractors for the Afari Military Hospital, who assured him they would resume work promptly to accelerate its completion.

Beyond healthcare infrastructure, President Mahama highlighted the challenges facing the Suame Interchange and various road projects in Kumasi. He explained that while these projects were initiated, they lacked dedicated funding, and his government is now working to secure financial support to expedite their completion.

“We are looking for sources of funding to speed up the work on this project so that we can ease the condition and inconvenience that the residents of Kumasi face,” he said.

Addressing concerns over the stalled Kejetia Market Phase II project, which was affected by the debt exchange program, President Mahama expressed optimism that with official creditor negotiations completed, his administration can now engage lenders bilaterally to restart work.

“Now that we have finished the official negotiations with the official creditor committee, it opens the way for us to have bilateral discussions with the lenders in order that they can resume work on Kumasi Market phase 2,” he added.

As his government moves forward, President Mahama remains focused on reviving and completing critical infrastructure projects to improve the lives of Kumasi residents and enhance economic activity in the region.
