The former Majority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, has revealed the circumstances leading to the leakage of the report on the New Patriotic Party (NPP) election defeat in the Ashanti Region, which was put together by a fact-finding committee.

The former Ashanti Regional Communications Director of the NPP, Dennis Kwakwa, who was the Coordinator for all the committees, had been accused by a section of the party members of being responsible for the leakage.

However, in a radio interview shared on YouTube, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, former Member of Parliament for Suame and Chairman of the Investigative Committee commissioned by the Ashanti Regional Executive, refuted the accusation, absolving Kwakwa of any wrongdoing.

“Kwakwa was not the one who leaked the report. He was the Coordinator for all the committees. He had the final draft after we had concluded our work and edited the report. That is why some suspect he was the one who leaked it, but as I said, he is not the one. I have investigated and identified the person who leaked the report. But I can’t mention the name on air. It was not deliberate; I think the person was passing it on to others, and in the process of transmitting it, whoever received it leaked the report.

He continued: “Only four people had a soft copy of the report. Kwakwa was the custodian because he was the Coordinator. When we concluded, we decided that nobody should have the report. So even I, as the Chairman, didn’t have a copy of it. There was a need for us to give an elderly party member a copy, and we did so. Because the person was not in Kumasi, we had to send him the soft copy. There was a second person who was also key but had traveled. So he requested that a copy of the report be sent to him so he could read it while on his flight. And so it was sent to him. These two persons would not have leaked the report.

Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu added: “There was a group that the committee had met. We were very transparent with the group, and they requested a copy of the report when it was ready. So we gave them a copy, but because the group was large, the report got leaked in the process of being transmitted among its members. It was not deliberate.”
