Key extracts from GFA’s proposed budget for the 2022 FIFA World Cup

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) submitted a $14,184,100 budget to the Ministry of Youth and Sports for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. The budget was divided into two phases:

Pre-tournament camping – $1,409,300
Tournament proper – $12,774,800

Below are key allocations and notable details extracted from the proposed budget:

Per Diem Allowances – $408,800 (28 Days)

Players (26 members): $150 per day → $109,200
Technical Team (22 members): $150 per day → $92,400
Officials (37 members): $200 per day → $207,200

Appearance Fees – $5.4 Million

Each of the 54-member delegation, including players, technical staff, and GFA officials, was allocated $100,000 as an appearance fee.

Air Transport – $632,000

Accra to Doha and back (Officials only) – $2,000 per person for 16 officials → $32,000
Charter flight for team (Doha-Accra) – $300,000
Discrepancy: Some players were already in Qatar before the tournament, but flight costs were still included.

Accommodation and Meals – $2,431,600

FIFA-covered accommodation for players & officials: (26 players, 24 officials)
Extra accommodation (single rooms for 37 extra persons): $300 per night for 28 nights → $310,800
Meals for extra persons: $100 per day for 28 days → $103,600

Honorarium Payments – $108,000

Some officials were allocated honorarium payments, including:

Head of Delegation: $20,000
General Secretary: $15,000
Administrator: $15,000
PA to Head Coach: $10,000
COVID Officer: $20,000
National Teams Department Rep: $10,000
Other Officials (Scouts, Security, Kit Officers, etc.): Various allocations

Bonuses and Match Payments

Players and Technical Team bonuses per round:

Quarter-finals:

Players: $14,000 per match
Head Coach: $28,000
Assistants, Physios, GK Coach, Team Doctor: Various allocations

Semi-finals/Third Place:

Players: $18,000 per match
Head Coach: $40,000
Assistants, Physios, GK Coach, Team Doctor: Various allocations

Finals:

Players: $40,000 per match
Head Coach: $80,000
Assistants, Physios, GK Coach, Team Doctor: Various allocations

Miscellaneous Expenses

Laundry: $30,000
Appearance fees (officials): $100,000 each (included in $5.4M)
Match Analysis & Editors, Media Officers, Kit Officers, etc.: Various allocations

Prosper Harrison Addo, General Secretary of the Ghana Football Association signed the budget which was submitted to the Ministry of Sports.

GFA budgeted $408,800 as per diem for 2022 W/C – plus $5.4M in appearance fees and questionable costs
