Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) is crediting a year of progress and achievement of quality healthcare delivery to its staff’s unwavering efforts, and stakeholder support.

Over 39 exceptional and long-serving staff have been recognized for their commitments which have driven excellence, saved lives, and resolved challenges at the hospital.

The annual event is in line with the Hospital’s commitment to advancing patients’ outcomes and healthcare practices.

From hardworking doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals, to the administrative and technical staff, the award ceremony recognised their support of the hospital’s operations.

The celebration of staff, some of whom had worked for 40 years, is under the theme: “The New KATH Agenda-Recalibrating Efforts for Enhanced Health Service Outcomes: The Role of Stakeholders”.

The initiative emphasized an era of collaboration and strengthened partnerships with key stakeholders.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), Prof. Otchere Addai-Mensah, describes the gesture as a comprehensive strategy aimed at refining processes, optimizing resources, and ensuring that health services at KATH meet international standards for quality and efficiency.

“We shall honour some selected members of staff for their outstanding contributions to raising the standards of excellence at the hospital, it is through their dedication, innovation, leadership, and hard work that we have reached new heights.

“Their commitment to improving patient outcomes, advancing healthcare practices, and supporting their colleagues serves as an example for all of us. It represents lives saved, challenges resolved and the tireless pursuit of better healthcare services,” he said.

In all, 20 of the longest-serving members of staff and 19 other category winners were independently assessed by a committee of their peers after a selection by heads of the various units and directorates took away electronic gadgets and cash prizes as rewards.

Prof. Otchere Addai-Mensah highlighted strides of stakeholders that have elevated the hospital’s outlook and standing.

“With the support of the Asantehene, the government, and other partners and through the judicious use of Internally Generated Funds of the hospital undertook a number of initiatives to improve the infrastructure base and service delivery at the hospital.

“The comprehensive renovation and modernization of the “GEE” blocks under the Asantehene Heal Komfo Anokye Project (HeKAP), renovation and upgrading of the hospital’s Main Theatre, revitalization and expansion of the Dialysis Centre leading to the increase in dialysis machines from 2 in 2023 to a total of 15 by the end of 2024, and the retooling of the Laundry Unit. And the Short Turnaround Time (STAT) Laboratory at the Family Medicine Directorate. This laboratory enables us to provide rapid test results for urgent cases, reducing waiting times and enhancing the overall patient experience,” he said.

Head of the Respiratory Unit, at the Department of Medicine, Dr. Divine Aseye Yao Amenuke who received the Best Staff of the Year, described the gesture is inspirational.

“God has been my main backbone, and I also have a lot of mentors who encourage and guide me. It’s a good thing for people to get encouraged for what they do. It’s a good thing to start with,” he said.

Prof. Otchere Addai-Mensah revealed plans to celebrate 70 years of impactful operations of KATH this year.

“KATH is 70 years old this year having commenced formal operations in 1955. A comprehensive programme is expected to be launched in the course of the years to celebrate the outstanding contributions of this great hospital to the delivery of specialist clinical services, training and research in the country.

“For seven decades, KATH has touched millions of lives through healing, training and research in the healthcare space and its anniversary is to be meaningfully celebrated,” he said.
