Abdul Mumin ruled out for rest of season after serious knee injury

Rayo Vallecano center back Abdul Mumin’s season has been curtailed after the defender suffered a season-ending knee injury against Sevilla on Saturday.

Mumin was replaced after 35 minutes at the weekend by Aridane Hernandez after he felt discomfort in his knee during the La Liga tie.

The Ghanaian, who was enjoying a blistering campaign for Vallecano, was named Rayo Player of the Month in September.

In October, his remarkable season continued when his jaw-dropping strike against Osasuna was named La Liga Goal of the Month.

His impressive defensive contributions to Rayo in La Liga have also not gone unnoticed.

Mumin ranks 1st for blocks in La Liga this season.

Additionally, his 84% pass success is only second to Florian Lejeune in Rayo’s set up.

A 2.1 accurate long balls per game ranks him second to his teammate Florian Lejeune, while his 1.0 interceptions per game puts him joint-top in his team.

No player in Rayo’s side has completed more clearances per game than the Ghanaian (5.1), underlining his immense contribution and impact to Rayo this term.

Abdul Mumin’s absence is a huge blow for both his club and country.

For the Black Stars, he joins long-term absentees Abdul Fatawu Issahaku (ACL), Alidu Seidu (ACL) and Nathaniel Adjei (ankle injury) on the sidelines.

With the 2026 World Cup qualifiers looming, Mumin -who has four caps for the national team – will watch on from the sidelines.
