I left my PRO position at Ministry of Education voluntarily; I can’t defend NDC’s policies — Kwasi Kwarteng

A former Spokesperson for the Ministry of Education, Kwasi Kwarteng, says he voluntarily left his position at the ministry after the New Patriotic Party (NPP) lost the 2024 elections.

This, he said, was because he cannot defend the policies of the new National Democratic Congress (NDC) government.

According to him, his decision to exit was purely based on principle, stressing that he was not dismissed but left on his own accord.

“I left on my own accord and not because I was sacked. My decision was purely based on principle since I could not be seen advocating or defending the policies of a government whose principles and policies I do not subscribe to,” he explained.

His explanation comes after reports circulated on Opera News on Thursday, February 27, claiming that he had resigned from the NPP, citing accountability reasons.

Kwasi Kwarteng has, however, dismissed the reports, describing them as false and misleading. He insists that he has never considered resigning from the NPP, let alone taken steps to do so.

“At no point have I resigned from the NPP, nor have I ever contemplated such a decision. The claim that I resigned in the name of accountability is entirely false and without basis,” he said.

“This false publication appears to be a deliberate distortion of a discussion I participated in on GHOne TV earlier today. During a panel discussion on the revocation of appointments by the new NDC government, the host, Ms. Serwaa Amihere, asked whether I was still at post or had been relieved of my duties. I responded that, following the NPP’s defeat in the 2024 general elections, I had left the Ministry of Education,” he stressed.
