A/R: Authorities of Tafo government hospital appeal for completion of abandoned maternity block

Authorities of Old Tafo government hospital in the Tafo Municipality have appealed to the government to complete the abandoned maternity block for efficient maternal healthcare service delivery.

The multi-million facility, which was initiated by the then Member of Parliament for the area, Dr Anthony Osei Akoto, in 2002, and aimed at promoting quality maternal healthcare services, has now become a den of rodents and reptiles.

The hospital, situated in a densely populated suburb, currently has a two-bed capacity room as its maternity block and this is affecting maternal and pediatric healthcare services at the facility.

Mr. Daniel Adu Amankwaa, the Administrator of the hospital, told newsmen during a visit to the facility that, the completion of the project would help in the expansion of space to accommodate more pregnant mothers and their babies, who were often referred to the facility from the nearby communities.

He said despite the efforts by the dedicated staff to serve the people in the area, lack of infrastructure was impeding their efforts.

Many patients who spoke to the GNA implored the government, through the regional health directorate, to prioritize the completion of the project to avert the challenges that were compelling patients to rest on the ground.

They called on the government to help expand maternal healthcare facilities in the Ashanti region to help ease congestion at the few centres in the region.
