GES sets up committee to validate and reinstate sacked teachers

The Ghana Education Service has announced that the government is to reinstate all teachers whose appointments were revoked.

As a result, a committee has been set up to assist with the validation process.

Teachers affected by this layoff must provide their appointment letter, academic certificate, licensure certificate, and national service certificate.

The affected teachers are expected to complete the process by March 14, 2025.

Member of Parliament for Tafo in the Ashanti Region, Vincent Ekow Assafuah, who has previously condemned the government for its insensitive decision to terminate the appointments of young Ghanaians, thanked the president for the decision to recall teachers back to the classroom.

He urged that the same measure be applied across other sectors affected by the decision made on February 12, 2025.

His post on social media read: “The chickens are coming home to roost. Thank you, Mr. President. Respectfully, may you consider the other agencies, especially PMMC workers, who had their appointments terminated even though they were recruited and appointed in 2022—yes, 2022, Mr. President. Kindly look upon your children with favor, Sir.”

Meanwhile, watch this Ghana Month special edition of People and Places as we hear the story of how the head of Kwame Nkrumah’s bronze statue was returned after 43 years, below:
