A District Court in Kade in the Eastern Region has issued an ex-parte injunction ordering three media outlets in Asuom to cease operations until the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) assesses their noise levels and permits them to continue broadcasting.

The injunction follows a lawsuit filed by Nana Boadi Amponim Obodade III (Krontihene of Asuom), Nana Deibour II (Kyidomhene of Asuom), and Abusuapanin Abosi Aniagyei against Esewani Radio, Esewani Information Centre, and Sir Plans Information Centre over alleged noise pollution.

The plaintiffs claim that the activities of the defendants cause public nuisance, negatively affecting residents.

They are seeking an order compelling the defendants to adhere to regulations governing information centres in the area.

The court, after hearing the first plaintiff on March 4, 2025, ruled in favour of the applicants, citing the urgency of the matter and the need to balance the convenience of both parties.

The injunction, which remains in force for ten days, can be renewed upon further application.

Meanwhile, the plaintiffs have also filed for a civil summons, demanding that the defendants comply with the existing regulatory framework for media operations in Asuom. They are also seeking additional reliefs the court may deem fit, as well as the costs of litigation.
