President John Dramani Mahama has assigned the Minister for Interior, Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, additional responsibilities as the Acting Minister of National Security.

The appointment, made under Section 24 of the Securities and Intelligence Act 2020 (Act 1030), was formally announced by Speaker Alban Bagbin during parliamentary proceedings on Friday, March 7, 2025.

Mubarak Muntaka will now oversee national security operations while continuing his duties as Interior Minister. This move comes as the government strengthens efforts to tackle emerging security challenges and maintain public safety.

By merging the roles of the Interior Minister and National Security Minister, President Mahama aims to enhance coordination and efficiency within the country’s security framework.

Since taking office, President Mahama has dissolved and merged several ministries to streamline governance. Key ministries affected include the Ministry for National Security, the Ministry of Information, and the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources, as part of his commitment to a lean and effective government.
