Atebubu-Amantin marks 68th Indece Anniversary

A smartly organized parade by school children at the Atebubu Anglican Primary School Park marked the 68th Independence Day celebration in the Atebubu-Amantin Municipality.

Fifteen contingents participated in the event, drawn from six primary schools, six junior high schools, and three senior high school cadet corps. The students showcased various marching drills under the command of Station Officer III Zakaria Kabore of the Ghana National Fire Service. The celebration was further enriched with vibrant Ghanaian cultural dances and poetry recitals, adding color and energy to the occasion.

In a speech read on behalf of the Atebubu-Amantin Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr. Joseph Tang, he highlighted the relevance of the celebration’s theme, “Reflect, Review, and Reset,” particularly in the face of the country’s ongoing social and economic challenges.

He stated that reflecting allows the nation to celebrate its achievements while learning from past challenges. He noted that Ghana has made significant progress in areas such as energy, mining, education, health, agriculture, transport, public services, and the economy.

He stressed the importance of documenting the processes that led to these successes as a foundation for further growth, while also reviewing the flaws in implementing public policies, programs, and projects to enable better decision-making for the present and future.

Mr. Tang further emphasized that meaningful reflection and review would pave the way for better governance, adding that this could only be done effectively if the country thoroughly examined its actions and inactions. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to expanding and improving educational infrastructure, as well as providing the necessary resources for quality teaching and learning. He urged the public to rise above sectional and political interests and work together toward a better future.

As part of the event, prizes were awarded to the winners and first runners-up in each category. Excel School Complex emerged as the top primary school, ASEC Model School won in the junior high school division, and New Kokrompe secured the top position in the senior high school category.

The event was attended by several dignitaries, including the Municipal Director of Education, Mr. Isaac Budu, and the Atebubu Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Caezar Abanga. Heads of departments, members of the clergy, and traditional authorities were also present. The Twafohene of the Atebubu Traditional Area, Nana Ofori Yeboah, chaired the function.
