Reverend John Ntim Fordjour, Member of Parliament for Assin South and former Deputy Minister of Education, has called on the NDC government to prioritize infrastructure development instead of spending billions on the presidency.
According to him, while Ghanaians struggle with poor roads, hospitals, and schools, the government is allocating GHC2.7 billion to the Office of Government Machinery in 2025—an amount he describes as excessive.
“We wish them well as they create, loot, and CHOP the GHC2.7 billion. Let’s not forget the roads, hospitals, and schools that the EXCESS of GHC2.4 BILLION they’re going to CHOP could have built for Mother Ghana,” he stated.
Rev Ntim Fordjour contrasted this with the previous NPP administration, arguing that despite criticisms of being a “large” government, it spent only GHC327 million on the presidency in 2024.
In a social media post on Thursday, March 13, he accused the NDC of hypocrisy, noting that while they campaigned on a promise of a lean government, they are now spending far more than their predecessors.
“NPP’s ‘large’ government spent GHC327 million on the Office of Government Machinery, yet it was deemed ‘wasteful.’ So yaanom decided to try a ‘lean’ government.
“Meanwhile, NDC’s so-called lean government of 60 ministers and ‘lean’ presidential staffers have decided to spend GHC2.7 billion on the Office of Government Machinery. May they be reminded that what matters to Ghanaians is not the rhetoric and optics but the numbers—the actual burden on the public purse,” he wrote.
