The Assembly Member for Alajo North Electoral Area, Ibrahim Halidu Esq., has praised President John Mahama’s government for introducing allowances for assembly members, as outlined in the 2025 Budget.

Halidu made these remarks following the presentation of the 2025 Budget by the Finance Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, on Tuesday, March 11, 2025.

Speaking with the media in Accra, the Assembly Member expressed his appreciation for the announcement, noting that the inclusion of allowances for assembly members in the national budget was a long-awaited and significant development.

As the representative of Alajo North, which is part of the Ayawaso Central Municipal Assembly (ACMA), Halidu emphasized the vital role assembly members play in their communities.

“As assembly members, we carry great responsibility,” he said. “We live with the people, understand their challenges, and often serve as the first point of contact when they face problems. Sometimes, addressing these issues can be difficult, but this financial support comes at a crucial time.”

Halidu also highlighted the broader benefits of the allowance, noting that it would not only assist assembly members but also help support local communities in addressing various needs.

Halidu also expressed his gratitude to President Mahama for this initiative, stating, “On behalf of all assembly members, I extend our heartfelt thanks to His Excellency for this wonderful support. We truly appreciate it.”

Furthermore, Halidu welcomed the government’s promise to allocate 80% of the Common Fund to local government authorities to accelerate the decentralization process. “This is another positive development,” he said.

“In the past, we often received less than 50% of the allocated funds. With the new commitment of 80%, we expect to see significant improvements in our communities. There are many pressing issues, such as poor roads, dilapidated structures, and inadequate drainage systems. These funds will go a long way in driving much-needed development in our areas,” he pointed out.

Halidu’s remarks reflect a collective sense of optimism among assembly members, who are hopeful that the increased financial support will bring tangible improvements to their communities.
