Since its inception in 2020, the Connect Western Best Brains (CWBB) initiative has grown into a highly anticipated annual event, bridging the gap between public and private junior high schools in the Western Region.
Organized by Media General’s subsidiary, Connect FM (97.1FM, Takoradi), the event initially launched with a modest participation of schools within the Sekondi Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly and Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly.
However, it has gained widespread recognition, expanding its reach to encompass fourteen Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in its fourth edition in the 2024.
The CWBB quiz competition is designed to engage Junior High School students, broadening their knowledge base and serving as a preparatory platform for BECE candidates.
The competition emphasizes students’ knowledge, reasoning skills, critical thinking, and teamwork, celebrating the region’s brightest young minds and inspiring others to pursue academic excellence.
Notably, the quiz competition has not only prepared numerous Junior High School students for academic excellence but has also significantly boosted the confidence levels of many participants.
Many of these students have gone on to become distinguished members of their respective Senior High Schools, a testament to the competition’s positive impact on their academic journey.
Nana Adwoa Yeboah, the lead participant from The Nest School Complex, successfully led her school to secure the bronze medal in the 2024 CWBB quiz competition.
Her exceptional performance in the BECE was due to experience gained through participation in the CWBB quiz. This earned her the prestigious title of Best 2024 BECE Performer among private schools in the Western Region. Currently, she is pursuing General Science at Wesley Girls Senior High School.
Her outstanding achievement was formally recognized at the 68th President’s Independence Day Awards ceremony, held at the Accra International Conference Centre on March 5, 2025, where she received a well-deserved award.
According to Henry Nuamah Appiah, Headteacher of Nest School Complex, the Connect Western Best Brains CWBB quiz competition played a pivotal role in Nana Adwoa Yeboah’s remarkable achievement.
“I can confidently say that the Connect Western Best Brains CWBB quiz significantly contributed to our students’ outstanding performance in the last BECE exams.”
“While acknowledging the hard work of our teachers, it’s essential to recognize the invaluable experience and skills our students gained from participating in the quiz, which undoubtedly enhanced their academic success.” he stated.
Meanwhile, the launch of the 2025 Edition of the Connect Western Best Brains (CWBB) is slated for March 19, 2025.
This exciting competition, spanning thirteen weeks, will bring together talented students from eleven districts out of the fourteen districts in the Western Region.
The stage is set for a thrilling battle of wits, as these junior high schools compete for the coveted title and bragging rights.
According to Joris Dweben, Regional Manager of Connect FM, this year’s Connect Western Best Brains event promises to be even more captivating and vibrant than its predecessors.
He revealed that attractive packages await the winners and participating schools, making the competition even more thrilling and rewarding.
