The Star of God Roman Catholic Primary School in Wa, Upper West Region, emerged victorious in the 2024 edition of the Radio Progress Best Brains Contest with 54 points.

The school faced stiff competition from other finalists, with Wa Methodist School for the Blind Primary School securing second place with 34 points, Huriya Islamic Primary School coming third with 33 points, and St. Paul Methodist Primary School placing fourth with 30 points.

Several other schools from the Wa Metropolis made it to the quarterfinals, including Dobile Presbyterian Primary School, Kabanye Islamic Primary School, Fongo Primary School, and St. Cecilia Primary School.

The Best Brains Contest is an initiative of Radio Progress, a Wa-based radio station, in collaboration with the Wa Metropolitan Education Directorate.

The Wa Metropolitan Assembly serves as a partner, while The Hudu Foundation sponsors the program. The initiative aims to enhance the quality of education in the region by improving competitiveness, building confidence, and grooming pupils for greater academic success.

According to Wa Metropolitan Director of Education, Sophia Dimah, the region’s declining educational standards require a multi-faceted approach to address the challenge.

She believes such competitive educational programs create an atmosphere that enhances learning.

Madam Sophia also pledged to introduce more innovative programs to help pupils match the academic standards of their peers in southern Ghana. She further expressed deep gratitude to Alhaji Hudu Mogtari for his generous support.

“This selfless contribution will undoubtedly enrich the educational experience of our students, inspire them to strive for greatness, and help them become better members of society,” she stated.

As part of the sponsorship, Alhaji Hudu Mogtari, through The Hudu Foundation, donated 2,000 exercise books, as well as trophies and medals for the award winners.
