Kennedy Agyapong, a contender in the 2023 New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer race, will run for the position again, his brother Ralph Agyapong has revealed.
Speaking in an interview on Kings Jersey TV in the U.S. on March 15, Ralph Agyapong, who was a 2024 Bantama parliamentary candidate aspirant, stated that many former supporters of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia are now backing his brother.
“I can tell you on authority that he will contest the presidency or the NPP primaries, hopefully, next year, because we might have an early congress. He will be on the ballot paper,” he said.
“As I speak, a lot of people have made a U-turn,” he added.
In the 2023 NPP flagbearer contest, then-Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia emerged victorious with 118,210 votes, representing 61.47% of the total valid votes cast.
The election, declared by the Electoral Commission at the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday, November 4, 2023, saw Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, his closest contender, polling 71,996 votes, representing 37.41%.
However, the NPP was defeated by over 1.7 million votes in the 2024 general elections which saw President John Dramani Mahama, win by over 57% of the total valid votes cast.
