The Minority Leader in Parliament and Member of Parliament for Effutu, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has stated that the responsibility of rebranding the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) now falls on him.
According to him, with no current party leader or flagbearer, the burden of repositioning the NPP after its heavy electoral defeat in 2024 rests heavily on its parliamentary leadership.
“As a Minority Leader, you must also lead the rebranding. Now, there is no party leader. We don’t have a flagbearer yet.
“So now, as a leader in Parliament, de facto, everything is on my shoulders. The party is looking at it, members in Parliament must activate themselves. I also see that I have a responsibility to lead the rebranding of the party,” he noted.
Afenyo-Markin made these remarks while speaking on ‘The KSM Show’, where he also reflected on the NPP’s post-election performance.
He acknowledged that the party had disappointing results in the 2024 elections, losing significant parliamentary seats.
The NPP, which had hoped to secure victory or at least increase its parliamentary representation, now holds only 88 seats compared to the NDC’s 187.
As part of its rebuilding process, Afenyo-Markin stressed the need for internal restructuring, rebranding, and reviving the party’s base to prepare for the future.
He urges members of the party to put an end to the blame game and put themselves together for the task ahead and recapture power in 2028.
