We deserve better roads – Odotobri MP demands action on construction delays

The Member of Parliament for Odotobri Constituency, Anthony Mmieh, has bemoaned the poor state of roads in his constituency, while underscoring the need to expedite ongoing road construction within the constituency.

“Odotobri Constituency, I would say, has some of the worst road networks in this country. Even the main road from Afoako leading to the district capital is terrible; it is nothing to write home about. Not to mention other trunk roads leading to Bepotenten, Oseikrom, Korbro, Aboakwa, and others. I think that in terms of roads, we have been left out. If you talk about development, you talk about water, education, and electricity, but when it comes to roads, we have nothing,” he told journalists in Parliament on Friday, March 14, 2025.

The MP’s comment was in response to an answer by the Minister of Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, to a question by Mmieh on the state of some 12 roads awarded for construction in the constituency.

According to the MP, only 1 out of the 12 contractors is currently on site, with some of the projects left abandoned for over six years — a situation he described as unacceptable.

“If, as a nation, we award contracts to so-called contractors who come and execute only 8% of the work and abandon the site for six years, then we are going nowhere. We want to see progress; we are also Ghanaians. We have cocoa farmers who are contributing their quota, we have public servants who pay their taxes and who expect to see better, and so I was compelled to ask the question,” he stated.
