Dr. Stephen Amoah, Member of Parliament for Nhyiaeso in the Ashanti Region, has taken a swipe at the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The former Deputy Finance Minister said the NDC, which was founded on a social democratic ideology and is supposed to champion pro-poor policies, has failed in that regard.
Contributing to a debate on the 2025 budget in Parliament on Tuesday, March 18, the Nhyiaeso MP argued that the NDC should be dissolved because the current budget failed to introduce policies to alleviate the burden on Ghanaians.
He further noted that despite failing to implement pro-poor policies, the NDC has instead fought against social interventions introduced by the NPP, such as the Free SHS policy and the National Health Insurance Scheme.
“Mr. Speaker, name all the pro-poor policies in our country—both in kind and cash. Any pro-poor policy of national tenacity and international reputation, the NDC cannot claim credit for it.
“Even when we were passing the National Health Insurance Scheme, you ran away, only to come back and claim you started it. Every day, it’s about propaganda. When we were implementing Free SHS, you were against it, you spoke against it,” he stated.
“The fact is, the NDC has to be dissolved because we are thinking about quality. We are talking about quality numbers. See, our numbers are small, but we have a quality minority,” the MP stressed.
