The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has urged its members to refrain from media discussions that could harm the party’s unity.
The party acknowledged that its defeat in the 2024 general elections has led to disappointment and emotional distress among members who may want to express their frustrations.
However, in a statement signed by General Secretary Justin Koduah Frimpong and dated March 20, the party appealed to its members to remain calm and allow cooler heads to prevail.
“As an officer of the Party, mandated by the Party’s Constitution under Article 10(7)(5) to coordinate the activities and operations of the Party, please note that all Party members are hereby directed to immediately cease discussing Party issues that create unrest, negativism, and disaffection in the media and other related platforms,” the statement read in part.
It further reminded members of Article 3(5) of the party’s constitution, which mandates them to promote and defend the good name of the NPP.
Going forward, Koduah stated that the National, Regional, and Constituency Party leadership will refer any member who violates this directive to the appropriate disciplinary committees.
This directive comes amid recent explosive media outbursts by former Dome Kwabenya Member of Parliament, Sarah Adwoa Safo.
The former lawmaker has, among other things, blamed the party for losing the constituency’s seat and alleged corruption in the School Feeding Programme under former President Akufo-Addo’s administration.
