Former Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo, has opened up about the future of her political career after exiting the legislative assembly.
The former Minister of Gender, Children, and Social Protection has dismissed rumors that she plans to contest the Dome-Kwabenya seat again, stating that she is setting her sights on a higher position.
Speaking on Accra-based JoyNews’ The Probe on Thursday, March 20, Adwoa Safo revealed her interest in contesting for a bigger role, including the Speakership of Parliament.
“I won’t contest the constituency again. It will take my father to change my mind. I won’t. I have done 12 solid years, and I’ve left a good legacy in the constituency. I will not contest. I’m moving forward. I’m looking at other bigger things.
“I’m looking at Speakership. I’m looking at higher, more challenging opportunities. I will not contest Dome-Kwabenya. So they should get it right—when I’m speaking about Dome-Kwabenya, they shouldn’t think it’s a way of preparing for a comeback,” she stated.
The former Deputy Majority Leader stressed, “I moved on a long time ago. If you’re appreciated, it motivates you to do more. If you’re not appreciated and you’re treated like, excuse me to say, a rag…”
Adwoa Safo lost her bid to represent the party in Parliament for a fourth term to Mike Oquaye Jnr., son of former MP and Speaker of Parliament, Prof. Mike Aaron Oquaye.
However, Oquaye Jnr. eventually lost in the general election held on December 7, 2024.
