Empty money storage boxes found in Ex-BoG Governor Addison’s home – National Security

National Security has revealed to 3News.com that empty money storage boxes were discovered at the residence of former Bank of Ghana Governor, Dr. Ernest Addison, during a raid on Wednesday, March 19, 2025.

According to National Security officials, they had obtained a search warrant before entering Dr. Addison’s Roman Ridge home. They claim the operation was based on intelligence suggesting that the former governor was in possession of funds belonging to the central bank.

In an exclusive interview to 3News.com, National Security also admitted to handling the CCTV system in Addison’s residence, explaining that they retrieved the hard drive as part of standard investigative procedures.

However, they firmly denied allegations that operatives stole cash or jewelry from the household.

“We did not take any money or jewelry from Dr. Addison’s home. We will, in due course, make public a full list of items retrieved during the search,” a National Security source stated.

Background & Reactions

The raid on Dr. Addison’s home has sparked widespread concern, with the Minority in Parliament strongly condemning it.

On the same day of the search, journalist Okatakyie Afrifa Mensah was reportedly arrested and later released, adding to the growing controversy surrounding recent security operations.

Additionally, on February 11, 2025, National Security operatives raided the residence of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.

Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has since called on President John Mahama to put an end to what he describes as a troubling trend of politically motivated raids on the homes of former government officials.

“President John Dramani Mahama, please leave a legacy. Let it be said that even if there were excesses in the exercise of executive power when you had the opportunity, you changed it for good. Own that legacy in your name. We are tired of the intimidation, the attacks, and the hypocrisy, ” Afenyo-Markin stated.
