National Security’s Richard Jakpa led raid on Ex-BoG Governor’s home – Afenyo-Markin

Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has accused Richard Jakpa, Director of Special Operations at the National Security Secretariat, of leading a controversial raid on the residence of former Bank of Ghana Governor, Dr. Ernest Addison.

Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, March 20, Afenyo-Markin alleged that Jakpa led the security operatives who stormed Addison’s private home in Roman Ridge, Accra, on Wednesday, March 19. The operatives reportedly disabled the CCTV system before conducting their search.

“Some GHC10,000 on his bed could not be found. So some of these hungry party foot soldiers they use who parade themselves as National Security Operatives are after all perhaps not being paid, and they use this opportunity to steal,” Afenyo-Markin claimed.

“The governor’s wife’s earrings and necklaces were also not traced. They couldn’t be found. In other words, those operatives stole these earrings and necklaces. Ghana is a matured democracy, and we should do better.”

Afenyo-Markin further revealed that Jakpa was also seen in CCTV footage from a separate raid on the residence of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta in February 2025. He argued that these incidents suggest a pattern of politically motivated targeting and abuse of power.

“This is not an isolated event. This same Richard Jakpa was captured on CCTV during the raid of Ken Ofori-Atta’s residence last month. We cannot allow this pattern of intimidation and lawlessness to continue,” he stated.

The Minority Leader has called on President John Mahama to take immediate action against Jakpa and his team, warning that such operations undermine Ghana’s democracy and rule of law. He also urged civil society groups and human rights advocates to speak out against what he described as political persecution.
