KATH observes World Tuberculosis Day 2025 with free TB and HIV screening

The Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) is joining the global community to observe World Tuberculosis Day on March 24, 2025, by hosting a free Tuberculosis (TB) and HIV screening event for the public.

This initiative aims to address the ongoing threat of TB in Ghana. The Respiratory Medicine Unit of the Internal Medicine Directorate will offer free screening services at the hospital’s Poly Car Park from morning until midday. This proactive measure seeks to tackle the issue of late TB diagnosis, which significantly contributes to the health challenge.

Dr. Divine Amenuke, the Head of the Respiratory Medicine Unit and Lead Clinician of the Internal Medicine Directorate, emphasized the importance of early detection in an interview with Otec News. He noted that both TB and HIV are highly treatable when diagnosed early. “This free screening provides the public with a vital opportunity to know their status and receive timely medical interventions if needed,” he stated.

This year’s World Tuberculosis Day will be observed globally under the theme “YES! WE CAN END TB: COMMIT, INVEST, AND DELIVER.” Dr. Amenuke encouraged the public to take advantage of the free screening, which aligns with both national and global efforts to eradicate TB. He stressed that early detection is crucial for combating the disease and improving treatment outcomes.

“The hospital hopes for a large turnout to make this World Tuberculosis Day a successful step toward a healthier Ghana,” Dr. Amenuke said.
