I dare AG to name and shame the MP who took money to block NSA ghost names scandal — Jerry Ahmed

Member of Parliament for Weija Gbawe, Jerry Ahmed Shaib, has challenged Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine to disclose the identity of the MP he claims was paid to suppress publications on the National Service Authority (NSA) ghost names scandal.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) lawmaker dared the Attorney General to expose the said MP and hold the person accountable.

“I dare the AG to name and shame the MP who was paid by the former NSS CEO to kill a story,” he said.

Speaking at a media engagement on Monday, March 24, Dr. Ayine alleged that the former Chief Executive Officer and other officials of the NSA paid a Member of Parliament, who then worked with some journalists to bury the scandal.

“We also have evidence that in November 2024, the CEO of the NSS and others paid a Ghanaian Member of Parliament to kill the story in the media and to defend them,” Dr. Ayine stated.

Similarly, the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA), in a statement dated March 24, said it was not surprised by the revelation. However, the foundation expressed strong interest in knowing the identity of the lawmaker who allegedly accepted bribes to cover up the scandal.

“In the interest of transparency and accountability, we call on the Attorney General (AG) to reveal the MP who was paid to do the bidding of the NSA officials.

“This is important because, in our view, MPs are supposed to be protectors of the public purse, not enablers of actions that drain it. Furthermore, the AG’s disclosure is a serious indictment on the entire institution of Parliament if the individual is not named,” MFWA stated.
