Severe bed shortage at Weija Gbawe Municipal Hospital leaves patients stranded

A visit to the Weija Gbawe Municipal Hospital at McCarthy Hill in the Greater Accra Region has exposed a critical lack of beds, leaving patients in desperate need of medical care without accommodation.

The hospital, tasked with delivering essential healthcare services to the community, is struggling to cope with an overwhelming influx of patients. Reports indicate that those seeking urgent medical attention are forced to endure long waiting periods due to the hospital’s inability to admit them.

Beyond the shortage of beds, concerns have been raised over alleged neglect by medical staff, with some patients left unattended for extended periods. The frustration and distress among those in need of care highlight the severity of the crisis.

The worsening conditions at the hospital have sparked growing concerns about the overall quality of healthcare available to residents in the area. Calls for immediate intervention, including improved infrastructure and increased staffing, are mounting as the situation continues to deteriorate.

The crisis at Weija Gbawe Municipal Hospital underscores the urgent need for better management and greater investment in Ghana’s healthcare system to ensure that no patient is left without the care they require.
