The Muslim community in Dambai township feels neglected by the country’s two major political parties, the NDC and the NPP, during the Eid-al-Fitr celebrations.
This sentiment arises as the community marks the end of Ramadan, a month-long period of fasting and spiritual reflection, with invitations to the parties going unacknowledged.
Eid-al-Fitr is a significant festival in the Islamic calendar, characterized by prayers, feasting, gift-giving, and family gatherings.
Despite sending formal invitations to both parties, neither the MCE nominee, the Regional Minister, nor representatives from the NPP and NDC attended the congregational prayers, known as Salat al-Eid.
The absence of these representatives was particularly noticeable, leaving the Muslim community feeling unappreciated.
Mr. Ashraf Elias, Secretary to Ahlussuna Wal-Jama’Ah, expressed surprise in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at the lack of political party representation.
The Eid-al-Fitr celebrations serve as a time for communities to come together, strengthen bonds, and renew their commitment to their faith.
However, the perceived neglect by the political parties has cast a shadow over the festivities in Dambai.
The community emphasizes the importance of inclusivity and recognition, particularly during significant religious festivals.
Meanwhile, the NPP in Krachi East has apologized for missing the Eid-al-Fitr celebrations in Dambai, citing confusion over the event’s date.
Mr. Charles Gyamfi Boateng, the immediate past Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) and chairman of the NPP in Krachi East, stated that there was a mix-up among party members regarding the date of the celebration.
He explained that some believed it would be observed on March 30, while others thought it would take place on March 31, 2025.
“Unfortunately, by the time the party realized the correct date was indeed March 30, they were already engaged in other activities outside the constituency,” Mr. Boateng said.
He extended apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused, acknowledging the importance of the Eid-al-Fitr celebrations to the Muslim community.
Similarly, Mr. Dramani Sulemana of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) responded to concerns over the party’s absence, stating that they were not formally invited.
Despite this, Chairman Sulemana has promised to visit the Muslim community on behalf of the NDC in the constituency during the week.
