Osahene Agyeman Sabi, the Krontrihene (sub-chief) of the Berekum Traditional Council in the Bono Region, has denied allegations of his involvement in illegal mining activities at Benkasa in the Berekum West Municipality.

Osahene Sabi described the allegations against him as unfounded and unsubstantiated and asked the people to disregard the ‘false rumours,’ saying, “I am not involved in any galamsey, and I will not even get myself involved in that bad practice.”

Addressing a news conference at Berekum, the chief called on security operatives and Mr. Dickson Kyere Duah, the Member of Parliament for the Berekum West Constituency, to take the matter up, assuring them of the Traditional Council’s readiness to support the fight against galamsey in the area.

“The Traditional Council will not allow any galamsey activity to happen on Berekum land,” he warned.

“Although I have some family land at Benkasa, I have never given any permission or approval for anybody or any company to undertake mining on it,” Osahene Sabi stated.

Meanwhile, Mr. Kyere Duah, the MP for the area, has assured the people that urgent measures will be put in place to prevent illegal mining in the community.

He told the GNA in an interview at Jinijini that they would do everything possible to prevent galamsey within the district.
