Kwakye Ofosu the right person to announce Vice President Prof Jane Naana’s illness — Koku Anyidoho

Former Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Samuel Koku Anyidoho, has weighed in on discussions regarding who should announce the medical status of Vice President, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang.

The Vice President was reported ill after work on Friday, March 29, and was admitted to the University of Ghana Medical Centre.

A statement signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Minister of State in charge of Government Communications and Spokesperson to the President, indicated that medical experts had advised the Vice President to seek further care abroad.

Some critics argued that the statement should have been signed by the Vice President’s Spokesperson, Nana Ama Pratt, who handles communication for her office.

However, in a social media post on Monday, March 31, the CEO of the MILLS Institute, Koku Anyidoho, defended Kwakye Ofosu’s role, stating that such announcements fall under the responsibilities of the overall Government Spokesperson.

“I disagree with those who say Ofosu-Kwakye should not have signed this release because the Veep has an official spokesperson.

“On a matter as grave as the medical airlifting of the Vice President, the overall Government Spokesperson should be the lead actor. The Veep’s spokesperson is for day-to-day stuff,” he wrote.
