The two development queen mothers outdoored by the Yilo Krobo Traditional Area
As part of efforts to enhance and facilitate development in the Yilo Krobo Traditional Area in the Eastern Region, two prestigious women have been bestowed with honour as development queen mothers (Noyam Manye) to champion this course.
Madam Benita Otoo, a nurse by profession, was on Thursday, March 27, 2025, installed the development queen mother for the Plau Division.
The queen mother who goes by the stool name Manye Dede Addo-Teye I, was formally introduced and accepted into the Yilo Krobo Traditional Council amidst many traditional rites.
Also installed, was the development queen mother for the Bornya Division of the Area.
Madam Dede Baakey, who goes by the stool name, Manye Dede Baakey Ofei I, was similarly formally introduced and accepted into the Yilo Krobo Traditional Council amidst various traditional rites by the chiefs and people.
The two will be expected to promote developmental projects in all communities within and under their respective divisions.
In an address on behalf of the traditional council, Nene Anyeenorgu Teye Agor IX, Divisional Chief of Okper noted that the enstoolment of the two industrious women to champion and facilitate development in the traditional area was part of the vision of the Paramount Chief of the Yilo Krobo Traditional Area, Nene Oklepeme Nuer Annorbaa Sasraku II to enhance the progress of the Area.
He charged the people to rally behind the new queen mothers to ensure that together they succeed in the discharge of their respective divisions.
According to him, more Noyam Manye would be installed to help the chiefs undertake their development agenda in the traditional area.
The chief also pledged the support of all Chiefs and Queen mothers in the Council to the newly installed queen mothers to bring about the needed change and restore Yilo Krobo to its former glory.
The Divisional chief of Nyewer, Nene Akpatsu Amoatey Azza IV also admonished the new queen mothers to ensure they stay humble at all times by cooperating with their divisional chiefs and queen mothers, adding that humility enhances learning.
He urged them to always avail themselves to listen to and help address the plight of their people but eschew partiality in their dealings with them.
On her part, Manye Dede Addo-Teye who expressed her preparedness for the position, promised to do all within her powers to ensure that she succeeds in her new role to make the traditional area a force to reckon with.
Expressing her vision for the people, the development queen mother, as part of her vision for the community, promised to champion education among her people.
“Some people are ready to go to school but they need encouragement, they need somebody to motivate them, they need people to support them so that they can go through education,” said the development queen mother, adding that stakeholders would be brought on board to support young girls ready to pursue education.
She identified unity as a crucial panacea for success and called for harmony amongst all within the traditional area to ensure development.
