The Minister of Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has reacted to the removal of the electronic transaction levy, the 10% withholding tax on game winnings, and the emissions tax.

In a social media post on Wednesday, April 2, the Member of Parliament for Ajumako Enyan Esiam wrote, “It is finished! E-Levy, Betting Tax, Emission Tax.”

This comes after President John Dramani Mahama assented to bills passed by Parliament to remove certain taxes that his government deemed nuisance taxes introduced by the previous NPP administration.

The President has fulfilled his campaign promise by signing into law a set of amended bills that abolish the Betting Tax, E-Levy, Emissions Tax, and others.

On Wednesday, March 26, Parliament approved bills repealing the Betting Tax, Emissions Tax, Electronic Transaction Levy (E-Levy), and others.

The 2025 budget statement outlined the removal of several taxes, including the Betting Tax, E-Levy, Emissions Tax, VAT on motor vehicle insurance policies, and the 1.5% withholding tax on winnings from unprocessed gold by small-scale miners.

Presenting the budget to Parliament on Tuesday, March 11, Dr. Forson explained that the move aims to ease the financial burden on Ghanaian households and businesses.

In a social media post on Tuesday, April 1, the Finance Minister asserted that scrapping the controversial E-Levy will save Ghanaians 2 billion cedis.
