On Wednesday, April 2, 2025, the Minister of Gender, Children, and Social Protection, Hon. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, visited the Krowor Municipality in the Greater Accra Region to inspect the payment of benefits under the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) program.

Her visit was part of a monitoring exercise to ensure the smooth disbursement of funds to beneficiaries, particularly the elderly and vulnerable. Expressing satisfaction with the progress, she urged beneficiaries to make good use of the support.

The LEAP program provides financial aid to extremely poor households, including orphaned children, persons with severe disabilities, and the elderly above 65 years. The Minister revealed that the government is working to increase the grant, currently ranging from GH₵512.00 to GH₵848.00 per household.

“one eligible member household would receive GH₵512.00, two-member households would receive GH₵608.00, three-member households, GH₵704.00, and four-member households, GH₵848.00”.

Hon. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey acknowledged challenges, such as mobility issues affecting some beneficiaries, and reassured them of ongoing efforts to address these concerns. She encouraged recipients to consider small businesses as a way to sustain themselves and improve their livelihoods.

She also announced plans to expand the program to include an additional 50,000-plus households starting in July. The Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment, under H.E. John Mahama’s leadership, to improving the welfare of beneficiaries and strengthening social protection efforts.

Some beneficiaries praised the government for fulfilling its promise of increasing the LEAP grant for the 94th and 95th payment cycles. The Minister concluded by thanking them for their patience and assured them that all due payments would be disbursed during the reassessment.
