Energy Minister John Jinapor has praised the Technical Committee on Private Sector Participation (PSP) for its thorough work in assessing the future of power distribution in Ghana.

He reassured the public that the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) will not be sold, emphasizing that the government is carefully considering the best option from the committee’s recommendations.

Jinapor noted the extensive consultations undertaken by the committee, ensuring that all relevant stakeholders were engaged in determining a path forward.

He reiterated that the goal of the initiative is to provide reliable, affordable, and dependable electricity.

The minister clarified that, the three proposed models, Entity Concession, Multiple Lease, and Service Franchise, do not suggest an outright sale of ECG’s assets, instead, ECG will remain the asset owner, with private sector participation structured to enhance efficiency while maintaining national ownership.

“This exercise is not the end of the road; in fact, this is the beginning,” Jinapor stated, emphasizing that the Mahama-led government will make progress based on the chosen option.
