Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, the ranking member of Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee, has called for a joint briefing by major investigative agencies on critical national security threats.
Rev. Ntim Fordjour, in a letter dated April 2 addressed to the Chairman of the Defence and Interior Committee, requested that the National Security Ministry, the Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID), the Narcotics Control Commission, and the National Investigations Bureau (NIB) appear before the committee.
The briefing, scheduled for Monday, April 7, at 11:00 a.m. in Parliament’s Committee Room, is intended to provide updates on high-profile investigations of considerable public concern.
“The purpose of this proposed meeting is to afford the agencies the opportunity to brief the committee and provide updates on investigations being conducted into high-profile reported incidents of serious and urgent public interest,” the Assin South MP stated.
He expects reports on incidents such as the February 9, National Security operation in Sapeiman, which revealed twelve 20-foot containers laden with gold bars and currencies.
The investigative agencies will also be questioned about two large narcotics busts in March that involved cocaine shipments worth $350 million and $120 million, respectively.
Another major concern is the entry and departure of two flights—AirMed Flight N823AM and Cavok Air Antonov An-12B—which arrived at Kotoka International Airport from Gran Canaria on March 12 and 20, respectively, and supposedly returned to the same destination on March 25.
“The Committee would also volunteer information that will be useful for the security agencies in the conduct of their investigations into the specific matters under reference,” Rev. Ntim Fordjour noted.
