Were working to secure funds from Finance Ministry — EC assures temporary staff of payment of 2024 election allowance

The Electoral Commission (EC) has assured temporary staff of the Commission that the allowance owed them for 2024 general election would be paid.

“We assure you that we are working around the clock to secure funds from the Ministry of Finance”, a circular dated March 7, 2025, said.

The circular, captioned “PAYMENT OF ALLOWANCES”, was addressed to “ALL TEMPORARY STAFF, ELECTORAL COMMISSION” and signed by Mrs. Jean Mensa, Chairperson, EC.

The letter, was sighted by the Ghana News Agency (GNA), said, “We sincerely apologize for the delay in paying your election related allowance. We feel your burden.”

It added: “We will endeavor to make prompt payment to you as soon as funds are released by the Ministry.”

Mrs. Mensa also commended the staff for their professional service to the Commission and the nation during the election, leading to the “peaceful, credible, glorious, transparent and timely election that we witnessed as a country.”

“Ayekoo. May GOD remember your good works and bless you all,” the circular said.

However, some of the temporary staff GNA spoke with expressed dissatisfaction about the four-month-long delay in payment and called for immediate release of the allowance.

The staff, who wanted to remain anonymous, wondered why there was a delay in the payment of something that had been well planned and budgeted for.
