Kwame A Plus, the Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, has expressed his frustration with the behavior of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) following its loss of power.

According to A Plus, the party, which once held the reins of the country, now seems to have found its voice, actively criticizing President John Dramani Mahama and his administration—a sharp contrast to their silence during their own time in office.

In a candid interview on Adom FM, A Plus, who is known for his outspoken views as both a musician and politician, took a moment to commend the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, for his exceptional leadership of the Ashanti Kingdom. He praised the king for maintaining peace and unity, successfully avoiding chieftaincy disputes in his jurisdiction, and demonstrating wisdom, particularly during President Akufo-Addo’s administration.

“I am not an Ashanti, but I revere the Asantehene because of the way he has been able to hold the Ashanti Kingdom together and ensure that there are no chieftaincy disputes in his jurisdiction,” A Plus stated. “God bless him for that. I have so much respect for Otumfuo. A whole Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, when Akufo-Addo was president, was very careful whenever he spoke.”

However, his frustration with the NPP’s current behavior under President Mahama’s leadership was clear. A Plus criticized the party for vocalizing their complaints now that they are out of power, noting a stark difference from their silence while they were in charge.

“When the NPP was in power, Ghanaians could not speak up. Today, John Mahama is president, and NPP supporters are all over the place complaining. Ghanaians should not take the NPP seriously,” A Plus said, highlighting what he perceives as a clear double standard in the party’s conduct.

He went further to express his dissatisfaction with the NPP’s post-power criticisms. “Just a few months after the NPP left power, they have found their voices and are talking, while the NDC is looking on. Even some of us who were with the NPP and campaigned to get them into power in 2017 are verbally assaulted when we speak.”

A Plus also pointed out the contrasting approaches to handling criticism between the NPP and the National Democratic Congress (NDC). He referred to the treatment of individuals like Bullgod, who was arrested for speaking out against the NPP government while they were in power, illustrating the NPP’s intolerance for dissent.

“John Mahama is human; when you make an allegation, he orders for the claim to be investigated,” A Plus explained. “The likes of Bullgod were arrested for criticizing the NPP government. I don’t know the source of the NPP’s confidence.”

He concluded by expressing his anger at the NPP’s post-office conduct. “Their conduct makes me angry. You left power recently, and you are always talking since the NDC came to power, as if you are the true owners of the country,” he emphasized.
