Abednego Tawia Gblie Osroagbo of Old Ningo
The National House of Chiefs has officially gazetted Abednego Tawia Gblie Osroagbo of Old Ningo as the Paramount Chief of the Ningo Traditional Area in the Greater Accra Region, after the stool remained vacant for twenty years.
The stool became vacant following the death of the former Paramount Chief, Samuel Narh Osroagbo, in September 2005, necessitating the installation of a new Paramount Chief to oversee the traditional and customary affairs of the Great Ningo enclave.
However, the process to install a new Paramount Chief was marred by prolonged litigation that began at the Regional House of Chiefs, advanced to the National House of Chiefs, and eventually concluded at the Supreme Court, which delivered its final judgment on November 22, 2024.
For most of the past two decades, the late Nene Kanor Attiapah III, the Mankralo of Ningo, served as the Acting Mantse (Paramount Chief) and Acting President of the Ningo Traditional Council.
Following the Supreme Court ruling, the National House of Chiefs in Accra, on March 28, 2025, endorsed 56-year-old Abednego Tawia Gblie Osroagbo as the new Paramount Chief, bestowing upon him the stool title Nene Osroagbo Djangmah XII.
On April 3, 2025, the chiefs and elders of the Ningo Traditional Area swiftly installed Nene Osroagbo Djangmah XII during a ceremony at the Ningo Traditional Council in Old Ningo.
Addressing the chiefs, elders, and community members, Nene Osroagbo Djangmah XII reflected on the litigation that delayed the installation of a Paramount Chief for two decades, emphasizing that it had ultimately strengthened unity among the people.
“The history of Ningo has been full of ups and downs. We have experienced phases where disunity and lack of cooperation hindered our progress and development. Yet, there have also been times of unity and growth when an atmosphere of peace prevailed,” he stated.
He noted that the delay in gazetting a Paramount Chief had impeded development in the Ningo Traditional Area and pledged to revitalize economic activity through his leadership.
He emphasised his intention to seek government assistance to secure machines and chemicals to promote mechanized and large-scale farming, aiming to reduce food shortages and post-harvest losses.
According to him, Ningo is rich in business potential, but development is hampered by the lack of paved roads.
He promised to advocate for the government to construct roads in the area.
He also stressed that cleanliness is essential to maintaining public health and vowed to enforce regular community sanitation to prevent diseases caused by poor hygiene.
Nene Osroagbo Djangmah XII expressed his gratitude to the chiefs and elders for their unwavering support and appealed for unity to sustain the peace and progress that Great Ningo has long sought.
