The Acting Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Edudzi Kudzo Tameklo Esq., together with his delegation, participated in ARDA Week 2025, held in Cape Town, South Africa.
The annual gathering is aimed at shaping Africa’s evolving energy sector.
This year’s conference, held under the theme “Africa First: Delivering Our Energy Future,” focused on addressing the continent’s energy needs, prioritizing African solutions, and advancing dialogue around a just and cleaner energy transition.
Discussions centered on enhancing regional collaboration and strengthening policy and regulatory frameworks.
The forum also emphasized the need for Africa to invest in its downstream sector, with particular focus on refining capacity, terminals, pipeline infrastructure, tanker fleets, service stations, and bottling plants.
A key highlight of the event was the reaffirmation of Africa’s vast energy potential, with proven reserves estimated at 119.8 billion barrels of crude oil and 632 trillion cubic feet of natural gas.
The majority of these reserves are found in countries that are members of the African Petroleum Producers’ Organization (APPO), reinforcing the continent’s strategic importance in the global energy landscape and the need to manage these resources sustainably for long-term growth.
A standout moment was the official launch of the Africa Energy Bank, a collaborative initiative between APPO and the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank).
The bank is designed to finance energy projects across the upstream, midstream, and downstream value chains. It will also offer key services in advisory, capital markets, risk management, and asset monetization.
