The government has officially dissolved the National Cathedral Secretariat, effectively halting all administrative and operational activities related to the controversial project launched under former President Nana Akufo-Addo.
Originally envisioned as a national Christian worship centre and a symbol of Ghana’s religious identity, the National Cathedral project has faced growing backlash over alleged financial mismanagement, lack of transparency, and stalled progress.
The decision to dissolve the Secretariat signals a major policy shift, with the current administration distancing itself from the initiative.
Speaking on Channel One TV’s Face to Face programme, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Minister of State in Charge of Government Communications, confirmed that the government would no longer allocate public funds to the project.
He reiterated the position of President John Dramani Mahama, stating, “The president was clear that we are not going to use public funds to continue that project.”
Kwakye Ofosu emphasized that the move aligns with the administration’s broader commitment to responsible public spending and transparency.
