Be patient with Otto Addo, Maxwell Konadu prays Ghanaians

Former Black Stars assistant coach Maxwell Konadu is calling on Ghanaians to exercise patience with Black Stars head coach Otto Addo as he works to rebuild the national team.

In a recent interview on Akoma 87.9 FM, Konadu reflected on the volatile nature of football support in Ghana, particularly in light of the team’s recent failures especially in the African Cup of Nations(AFCON).

“Ghanaians adore football; when things go well, they lavish praise on you; when things go wrong, the country becomes split, and that is how the game has sadly become,” he noted.

After a disappointing AFCON qualifying campaign, which saw Ghana miss out on the tournament for the first time in 20 years, Otto Addo has started to regain public confidence.

The coach guided the Black Stars to consecutive victories over Chad(5-0) and Madagascar (3-0)  in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, keeping his unbeaten record intact and putting Ghana in a strong position to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

“We simply need to be patient occasionally (on Otto Addo), but how many individuals can be patient? Today’s generation will not be patient with you,” Konadu added.

The former Kotoko head coach remains optimistic that continued positive results will ease pressure on the under fire coach.

Ghana is set to play a four-nation tournament in July before preparing for crucial World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Mali in the September internationals.

The four-time AFCON winners currently top Group I with 15 points, holding a three-point advantage over second-place Comoros.
