High Court upholds Annoh-Dompreh’s 2024 election results

The High Court in Koforidua has brought finality to the legal dispute over the Nsawam/Adoagyiri parliamentary seat, ruling in favor of incumbent MP Frank Annoh-Dompreh.

Presided over by Justice Addae, the court dismissed an election petition filed by the National Democratic Congress (NDC), effectively affirming Annoh-Dompreh’s victory.

The ruling followed a successful application submitted by Gary Nimako Marfo, the Director of Legal Affairs for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), which the court reviewed and upheld.

The NDC had mounted a legal challenge, arguing that the MP’s declaration was based on flawed result sheets and violated electoral procedures. Determined to contest the outcome, the party had vowed to pursue all legal avenues.

As part of the proceedings, the court had earlier issued a substituted service order on February 25, summoning Annoh-Dompreh, the Electoral Commission, and the Clerk of Parliament to respond to the petition. The petition, led by NDC parliamentary candidate Fummey Selorm Philibert and his legal team, questioned the validity of the Electoral Commission’s declaration in Annoh-Dompreh’s favor.

However, in a decisive ruling delivered on Thursday, April 10, the court dismissed the petition in its entirety and awarded a cost of GH₵25,000 against the petitioner.

The verdict cements Annoh-Dompreh’s status as the duly elected Member of Parliament for Nsawam/Adoagyiri, marking the end of the legal contest over the seat.
