Ghana Premier League side Hearts of Oak have secured goalkeeper Benjamin Asare’s services with a contract extension that will keep him at the club until 2027.

Asare, whose performances have garnered significant attention, was reportedly attracting interest from Moroccan giants Raja Casablanca and three unnamed French clubs. However, he has now committed his future to Hearts of Oak by signing the new deal.

The 25-year-old shot-stopper’s reputation has risen thanks to his outstanding displays for the Ghana national team. Asare made his Black Stars debut in a 5-0 win over Chad and followed that up with another impressive performance against Madagascar in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, earning clean sheets in both matches.

Ghana coach Otto Addo has since endorsed Asare as the country’s new first-choice goalkeeper, ahead of long-time number one Lawrence Ati-Zigi and Jojo Wollacott.

Asare, who joined Hearts of Oak from Great Olympics in 2024, has been lauded for his commanding presence between the posts. His performances in the Ghana Premier League, as well as his displays on the international stage, have made him one of the most sought-after goalkeepers in West Africa.

Currently, Asare continues to play a vital role in Hearts of Oak’s ongoing 2024/25 season as they battle the likes of Asante Kotoko and Bibiani Gold Stars for the league title.
