Technology is revolutionizing societies worldwide, and Ghana is no exception. One initiative at the forefront of this transformation is the Digital Access for Rural Empowerment (DARE) Programme, aimed at providing women and girls with crucial training in digital skills.
Designed for young women aged 15 to 35, young mothers, and individuals living with disabilities, the DARE Programme will equip approximately 2,902 beneficiaries with the digital skills necessary for employment and income generation.
Implemented by GI-KACE Consult Ltd., UNESCO, and the University of Ghana Business School (UGBS), in partnership with The MasterCard Foundation, this initiative seeks to empower and support young women in acquiring the entrepreneurial and leadership skills needed to thrive in today’s digital landscape.
In Yilo Krobo, one of the beneficiary communities, Mr. Frederick Yeboah, Programmes Manager for GI-KACE Consult, emphasized the program’s impact on shaping careers and empowering the next generation of women leaders in the digital realm.
He expressed satisfaction with the turnout and enthusiasm demonstrated by the participants, which also included hundreds from Lower Manya Krobo.
Mr. Yeboah elaborated on the roles of the implementing partners: GI-KACE Consult focuses on creating market access and promoting a digital economy within the targeted community, while the University of Ghana emphasises business development, fostering trade among young women to address local challenges.
UNESCO, on the other hand, empowers young mothers to pursue higher education or start their own businesses.
In a community engagement led by Burgundy Africa, the DARE Programme aims to reach an employment figure of 2,902 beneficiaries, including young women and mothers.
Kobi Hemaa Osisiadan-Bekoe, Director of Corporate Affairs at GI-KACE, noted that 5% of the slots are reserved for individuals with disabilities.
Following the initial training, beneficiaries will receive additional training in financial literacy, including the use of mobile apps to help manage their businesses effectively.
